J.A. Henckels Twin Pure Ice Cream Scoop Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this because I knew Henckels wouldn't be junk and that it was stainless. It is truly solid stainless design and dishwasher safe. It isn't perfect, hense the 4 stars. spoon part of the scoop is surprisingly thin (it is still very strong). The result is that scoop freezes almost instantly in ice cream. When the scoop freezes, the ice cream freezes in the scoop so it is hard to make a nice round ball of ice cream. You may have to get another spoon to pry the ice cream out or continually warm the scoop in hot water as you serve.

It gets high marks for durability and rigid strength to pry out ice cream but it suffers when trying to serve nicely formed balls.

Zeroll Original 2-Ounce Zeroll Aluminum Scoop Review

(More customer reviews)have used this for 20 years and it's still going strong. the freon that is sealed into the one piece die cast aluminum is warmed by your hand which warms the freon inside (you can hear it when you shake the scoop) and the freon gently warms the cup of the scoop allowing for easy release of the ice cream.

BUT it cannot be put in the dishwasher. the super hot water temp will cause the seal to leak allowing the freon out.

most likely, the current scoops are using the replacement for freon (which i can't remember the name).

easiest scoop to use, easy to clean, built like a tank. it will be the last scoop you buy.

(More customer reviews)For years I've used two stainless steel scoops for cookie-baking.One regular sized scoop and one comparably sized (i.e. jumbo cookie-sized) to the black-handled Zeroll.The stainless ones have been the bain of my cookie-baking in that the metal-toothed gear at the bottom of the handle would frequently "jump the tracks" and leave the inner ring hanging outside the scoop.Several minutes and a stout kitchen knife would then be needed to pry the teeth back in alignment.No more will that be necessary - these scoops work flawlessly.They scoop through stiff batters and release the dough smoothly with no wailing or knashing of teeth - mine or the scoop's.

(More customer reviews)I was tired of bending spoons and struggling with cheap tinny ice cream scoops.I have arthritis and not a lot of strength in my hands but this baby does all the work for me making the ice cream easy to dig out of the carton.I love the pointed end for digging in and the substantial handle for managing the dig.If the ice cream is too hard I will warm the scoop with warm water first but I rarely need to do that.Also, once the ice cream is out of the carton, it easily slides off the scoop and into the bowl.

I love the scoop and bought one as a Christmas Gift for a relative who hada good ice cream scoop on their Christmas list.

They were the hit of our holiday party and I am looking forward to making heart shaped ones for Valentine's Day.A few suggestions--use a brownie mix and make sure it is thoroughly cooled before making sandwiches.After each cookie is made, put it in the freezer immediately or they start to melt.Ice cream should not be melted, just a little soft.Too soft and it won't work.I am also going to try using a sugar cookie dough.I learned that the cookie has to be soft, not hard or it won't work.All in all,a real delight!

Although the scoop's design is great and it handles well, the coating on my scoop has begun to peel after only 6 mos. of use.And I don't really need teflon in my super fudge chunk, thank you very much.
