(More customer reviews)This is fantastic for a family! We just got this yesterday at the urging of my 10-year-old son. After freezing the freezer bowls for the recommended time, we whipped up two batches of to-die-for ice cream this evening, utilizing recipes from the included booklet. The texture is rich, creamy and wonderful, and in my humble opinion, much better than store-bought stuff!

The machine seems sturdy enough for regular home use and is relatively quiet (no louder than our dishwasher) and very easy to use. The freezer bowls are great, and having an extra one (as included with this product) is super handy. There is no messing with salt or ice; you just mix up your recipe, pour it into the freezer bowl and let 'er rip! Easy as pie ... mmmm, pie. With ICE CREAM, of course!

(More customer reviews)We received this as a family Christmas gift.My son has severe nut allergies and we cannot buy much in the way of ice cream products from the store.Plus I love soft serve ice cream.So this has saved the day. We use it almost every night.We mix up the liquid when we make dinner.We put it in the refrigerator until dinner is ready.Then a few minutes into dinner I hop up insert the bowl and pour in the mixture.The only catch is the recipes in the booklet are way too much volume to get a proper consistency of ice cream. So we half all recipes and it it works great.We make the vanilla most often and use 1/2 cup 2% milk and 1 cup nonfat.The full fat version in the recipe book is yummy, but not appropriate (way too much fat) for our family given we have it for desert most nights. Approx. 20 minutes ice cream is done.We have done as much as a 3/4 recipe (3/4 cup 2% - 1 1/2 cup non fat)and it works.But that is the maximum you can use if you want it to freeze to a proper soft serve ice cream consistency. The lid also tends to pop up once the consistency gets thicker so we use one of my 5 lb weights to rest on top and keep the lid in place. The only draw back is if you have a bigger family (it is just the 3 of us) it doesn't make a bunch of ice cream relative quantity. This is a great machine. We all highly recommend it.

(More customer reviews)This worked well, but not for kids. It was too heavy and all the adults ended up having to roll it. They also lost interest in about 10 minutes--which wasn't long enough to finish making the ice cream.
Since the first time we've used it, the adults roll it around (gently as it can leak if you're too rough). We know what we're in for, so it's not too bad.

I picked the big one as the reviews for the smaller one made it sound like the small one is difficult to clean.

Cleaning has been fine on this model. And the ice cream tastes pretty good!

(More customer reviews)I bought these because they match my mothers 20 year old ones which need to be replaced.I received them today and out of curiosity I opened the package just to make sure they matched.They did except for one MAJOR and DANGEROUS FLAW!!!The base of the inside of the dish was not ground down and had a glass strand going from the base to the rim of the glass. Anyone eating out of it with a spoon could have easily broken off the glass and eaten it which could have cut their mouths or worse, torn up their internal organs.I spent 2 hours meticulously inspecting each glass to make sure they had no strands and then grinding the base of the glass down so no one would be hurt by them and all but 2 had them.I ruined a spoon in the process would recommend that anyone else who considers buying these think twice.I know who ever reads this review is probably thinking, "Why didn't you just return them?!"Well, these are a Christmas gift and I don't have the time to send them back only to possibly get a second shipment with the same defect.EPIC FAIL on the part of Anchor Hocking to ensure they sell a safe product.I'm just glad I was able to fix the problem myself before anyone got hurt.

out of the 12 glasses that were ordered, 4 glasses were shattered all over the box. I salvaged 8 glasses and didn't pursue the damages with the company. Very poorly packed...only separated by the cardboard dividers...no extra packing paper was added...I was surprised that the delivery person would even deliver a package that was rattling with broken glass because there was so much of it and it was so obvious.

These containers don't hold heat, so they don't melt the ice cream on contact. The lids are vented. This allows you to get all the air out of the container before freezing.
It is easy to write on them. This is obviously good if you have more than one kind of ice cream at a time (which I do), but also for giving ice cream to friends. Not only to identify it, but to personalize it.
I just ordered the pint size as well.

Progressive International Freezer Pop Sticks Review

(More customer reviews)Every summer we hear the sound of the ice cream trucks as they weave their way through our neighborhood, and it can get a bit costly over a week if we indulge in the frozen treats offered by them. It was for that reason that we began to look into making our own popsicles and frozen treats.

These Progressive International Freezer Pop Sticks offer an excellent start for us to make our frozen treats on a stick, and it's an excellent way to create concoctions that are not only easy to do, but fun for all involved. Homemade popsicles can save money, reduce the trash that we toss, and will help to save resources. They are fun to make, as kids love to experiment with different combinations.

But a few words of caution: please note that there is a big difference between the Craft Sticks found here and the ones being reviewed. Craft sticks are just for use with crafts, while the ones in this review are essentially a food-grade item, though they can be used for crafts as well... think of these as being dual-purpose.

You can make your own frozen pops using waxed paper cups or a mold, such as the Progressive International Freezer Pop Maker which will mold then into a more convenient and traditional shape. Using one of these also reduces the chance of spillage accidents in the freezer, which is something that many of us learn the hard way. The main thing to remember is to keep it simple, and have fun sharing the experience.

Here are a couple of our favorite easy recipes, proven by trial and error:

Quick & Easy Creamsicles
1 (6 oz.) can frozen Florida orange juice concentrate
1 (6 oz.) can water
1 pint vanilla ice cream, softened, (or vanilla yogurt)
Mix ingredients in a blender or with a power hand mixer for 30-45 seconds. Pour into molds, insert sticks, and freeze. Makes about seven, 2.5 oz. creamsicles.

Strawberry-Orange Popsicles
1 quart Florida orange juice
2 cups strawberries, frozen or fresh
3 tablespoons sugar (omit if using sweetened strawberries)
1 cup vanilla yogurt or softened vanilla ice cream
Blend till smooth or not-so-smooth, depending on preference. Pour into molds and freeze. Makes about twelve 2.5 oz. popsicles

Note: with any of the above, add the popsicle sticks after your creation has partially set for about 15 minutes.

Homemade popsicles are cool (and no pun intended) because you can make them healthy, organic, and with the type of ingredients you like.

(More customer reviews)My wife and I were given this scoop nine years ago when we got married, and this scoop is going along as strong as we are.The handle contains a fluid (water? ethylene glycol? no one knows) that keeps the ice cream from freezing to the scoop, and the difference it makes is truly amazing. I have developed a habit of shaking the scoop a few times between "scoops", which (in my own mind at least) improves scooping performance, accelerating the transfer of heat from my hand to the scoop.

I think you're not supposed to wash this in the dishwasher, for fear the seal will leak, but we always ignore such warnings, and in nine years we've had no problems.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this machine at the local Salvation Army for $2.97. I was so excited to get it home. But saddened when I looked at Amazon for reviews and was disappointed to see all the low reviews of this machine. I almost didn't try it. But one review stuck out... It basically said to READ THE DIRECTIONS! So I printed off the manual online (mine did not come with a manual or a box) I followed the directions to a 'T'. I froze the canister overnight in my coldest freezer. I made the Old Fashioned Vanilla Ice Cream recipe in the manual, I made the first part and chilled it for SEVERAL hours. Added the vanilla and whipping cream just before pouring it into the canister.I didn't want to just sit and watch it so I set the timer for 20 minutes and got online to check mail.After 15 minutes I heard the machine struggling a bit. I went into the kitchen and I had lots of fluffy ice cream! I could have let it churn a bit more if I wanted to add some cookies or strawberries, bananas, etc.This is what I have learned:
1) Freeze the canister at least overnight. Better yet, store the canister in your freezer if you have the room. Then it's ready when you need it.
2) Make your batter up ahead of time and chill well.
3) READ YOUR DIRECTIONS (most important)
I think this is a great little machine for the money. I will be making homemade ice cream for my grandfather to go with his pecan pie for Thanksgiving.
