Byers' The Big Bobber Floating Cooler - Red/ White Review

(More customer reviews)This Bobber Cooler is definitely a conversation piece.I have had so many comments about it. I used it when floating down a small river near home (No Rapids, just calm water), it doesn't hold its weight, literally. The first thing is that the opening is in the center of the cooler, making it impossible to get drinks out with out pulling the whole cooler out of the water.The opening seam rides just barely about the water, and since it is round the weight shifts a little and the seam will dip into the water. The cooler then fills up with water, which almost immediatly melts the ice, and as it fills up it will sink to the bottom.maybe if there was a rubber gasket to seal it better, it might be ok.The 2 plastic clasps on each side used to close the cooler are really easy to break off, plus they are facing the wrong direction. If you bump something like a rock or a log, it will push the clasp back and then unlatch the cooler.

This cooler might be good to use in bodys of water that do not have current, like a pool, but I don't suggest towing it behind anything.I suggest using one of the many inflateble coolers on the market.

KitchenAid Professional 600, 6-Quart Bowl Lift Stand Mixers Review

(More customer reviews)I got my kitchenaid 600 mixer from amazon. After it arrived, I prepared a sourdough recipe that called for 8 cups of flour, the mixer bogged down and quit. I have prepared the same recipe 4 more times, each time the mixer quits. I thought this behavior was abnormal, but after a bit of online snooping, it turns out that many people experience similar problems when working with thicker doughs.

Kitchenaid clains it can handle 14 cups of all purpose flour, it simply cannot, in fact, i would set the maximum at about 10 cups for a less dense dough, and at 7 or 8 for thicker breads.

Ultimately, this is the best mixer available to the home baker in this price range, as much sturdier commerial grade models in this size ( 6 quarts) begin at about $1500. However, don't expext to use it to make thick bread or pizza doughs in large quantities, it simply isn't up to the task. It will do most of the work, but some hand kneading is still required.

Despite it's all steel gears and automatic shutoff feature, it seems that the motor and drive mechanisms are underbuilt and prone to failure if overloaded. On the upside, if your mixer happens to malfunction within a year of purchase (mine did after 2 weeks), Kitchenaid has great customer support and will replace the unit.

In short, it is a great mixer, but doesn't live up to the manufacture's promises.

(More customer reviews)Maybe I did not read the directions and was too eager to start using them but I washed and rinsed the containers before using them for the first time and water seeped between the container and plastic liner.I did not submerge them and was trying hard not to let any water near the seams but it wicked in anyway and took forever to dry out.I'm concerned that over time flour powder will get between and when I wash them again something nasty might grow.I'll probably use a damp cloth to clean them to avoid this.

With a cart it can be more than $1100.Then add the shipping $65 - $100.That's why I was amazed to see this item for $349.99 - WITH FREE SHIPPING.This item was delivered in two Huge boxes.Assembly was simple... about 20 minutes.I did not expect to be a top of the line model and was surprised at the quality.The red top is metal, not plastic.The three side walls are glass, not plastic.I has a kernal catcher, some don't.I was also concerned about the wattage of this machine.It has about half the wattage of other machines I was looking at.But after cooking a batch of popcorn I found that this unit cooked the popcorn as fast as units I had rented in the past.I am extremely happy with this machine.

(More customer reviews)When it comes to bake-and-serve ware, I always trust Pyrex.I've been using a variety of Pyrex products and have never had any reason to complain.I recently bought my second set of Pyrex glass custard cups for $7.99 from Amazon (50% discount from the normal price), which I felt, was a great bargain.It is not always that you find a stylish quality product that is microwave, oven and freezer safe.

I use the cups to make instant cakes, also use them to serve fruit salads, ice cream, custard and other baked deserts during social get-togethers. I find these cups very useful when I have to reheat a small portion of food either in the oven or microwave.

However see to it that you don't put them directly from the freezer to the oven. Let it remain at room temperature for sometime or else the result might be cracked bowl (Basic Science Concept). I highly recommend these bowls and feel that this product is a must for every homemaker.

Hamilton Beach 59770 Turbo-Twister 2-Speed Hand Blender Review

(More customer reviews)I've had several hand blenders-it's a "thing" with me :)I started out with a hand-me-down from my Grandmother and after years of use basically wore it out.I've been looking for a good replacement and ended up trying a Braun and a Cuisinart.For all the power and attachments I still didn't like the Braun.The Cuisinart (Quick Prep) was loud, heavy/bulky and didn't seem to have much power.Here's what I like about this Hamilton Beach one:

-Manual says not to use it to blend ice but I do anyway and it does a great job of it
-I like the blade housing.The blade sits low so you can blend a tiny amount of anything (with other models you'd have to have a larger amount of food so that the blade can make contact).Also, with the openings around the housing of the blade less food gets stuck to it (when I used my braun half the food I blended ended up on the blender and when you're only doing 1/4 cup of something that's a problem).Also, the openings on the housing help to whip in air- important when you're doing drinks and shakes.The Braun also lacks in this area.
-I like that the bottom can be removed for cleaning (eventhough it can not be put in the dishwasher it's okay because when I'd put the shaft of the Braun in the dishwasher it would come out 1/2 filled with gross dishwasher water which defeated the purpose).
-I like the shape of the blade.The braun had 2 pointy blades where this one is more of an off set S shaped blade and it does a better job especially for frozen fruit, etc.
-At about 200 watts it's plenty powerful enough. Even though this has much fewer watts than my braun (which had 400)it blends MUCH better.

(More customer reviews)This pan was my initial Nordicware pan purchase, and was the reason that I bought 4 others (1 other mini, 1 tart pan and 2 shaped full-sized bundts).I love the construction on all my Nordicware pans, this mini-bundt pan included.The details on the pan and the resulting cakes gives great presentation value - cakes brown evenly and the bottoms have a smooth, glassy look to them.You do have to bake at a lower temperature though (325 degrees) or your cakes will darken too much.I've used generous sprays of Baker Joy to grease this pan and have never had a problem with cakes sticking.Lastly, clean up is relatively easy and I've found that plastic scrub pads (the flat, square type) work best and don't ruin the non-stick finish.With the details in the pan though, you'll have to make sure that all the crevices are clear of crumbs when cleaning them.

I bought two sets of four bowls to complement my nice set of everyday dishes for times when you want just a little bit of something---like a little yogurt, or some granola, some fresh raspberries---and we use them all the time.I agree with a previous reviewer that they would be wonderful for food prep.

They are not thin, as a previous reviewer has noted.They are not thick or bulky either, though, just perfect.They seem like they will last a long time and wear quite well.They almost look, well...elegant, which seems kind of cool for just Pyrex and for the price.

The bowls come well-packaged, and although the price is very low, they definitely don't seem cheaply made.I haven't seen them in stores, either.Great buy!
