Hamilton Beach 68050 Icy Treats Ice Shaver, White Review

Hamilton Beach 68050 Icy Treats Ice Shaver, White

We have purchased several snow cone machines over the years and this is my favorite!!!Each Spring, I make snow cones for 4 classrooms full of children (over 100 children).Using the Hamilton Beach Icy Treats Maker, this has been our best year! Also, we often will do snowcones out in the driveway after school and we'll have a dozen or so kids stop by.

I purchased two of these machines and had them running side by side in the classroom.I was able to make snow cones for 25-30 kids in 20 minutes.I love the cup/bowl that catches the ice.If you have leftover ice or want to make ahead, you can throw this bowl in the freezer to use the shaved ice later. Also the easy on/off on this machine is nice.If you put in ice that is the right size (some store bought ice is too big), then there shouldn't be too much trouble with jamming.Once or twice I had to arrange the ice because a larger piece was stuck. I LOVE that most of this machine goes straight into the dishwasher! Also, seems very safe to me.The kindergarten class was running both machines and had no trouble!

Calphalon 3 Way Ice Cream Scoop Review

Calphalon 3 Way Ice Cream Scoop

My husband likes Breyers ice cream. But there have been times in the past I literally could not dent the ice cream, let alone scoop it out, because that brand gets so hard in the freezer. My husband, of course, would use brute force, bending my Oneida spoons :(. The solution up until now has been to let the ice cream sit on the counter for a few minutes; but continually letting ice cream melt and re-freeze over and over didn't seem quite right.

This has solved the problem; it doesn't bend (even with my husband's use), it does get into corners of the carton fairly well, the grip is great, it cleans beautifully in the dishwasher, and my flatware is spared any more abuse.

The black and grey handle isn't particularly appealing to me, but it works as intended.Keep in mind this is for small scoops of ice cream, to suit cones and small custard-sized dishes.I highly recommend "Cuisinart Ice Cream Spade" for bowl-sized portions. It will save you a lot of time and effort.

We own an ice cream parlor, where we make our own homemade ice cream. We've always bragged about "Enormous scoops - ridiculously good" but we had to put TWO balls from a regular dipper on the cone to make what we felt was a serious (5 oz.) scoop of ice cream. No more - the Zeroll 4 oz. scooper allows us to overscoop to 5 oz. in one ball, easy. It's HUGE and looks tasty as all get out, but it does tend to scare young mothers and old women.

My husband bought this ice cream maker for our anniversary present. We tried it out right away and made strawberry/oreo ice cream and it was delicious! The recipes included in the instruction manual surely rival Benand Jerry's!When he first brought the ice cream maker home I was worriedthat it would be noisy because you actually crank it by hand. However, once you get the ice all packed in inside, it is very quiet! It's notdifficult to crank and it only took us about 25 minutes from the time wepoured the recipe in until the time it was firm enough to eat and enjoy!Iwas impressed. The ice cream maker is also nice looking. It is a reddishbrown wood and it washes well inside.Once you are done making the icecream, you can transfer it into a container of your own, or you can justplace the inner container that comes with the ice cream maker directly intothe freezer. We have to transfer it into a tupperware because our freezeris too small. However, most normal refridgerator/freezers could hold theinner container.
I would definately recommend this product as way to makedelicious ice cream. It it a process that everyone in the family canparticipate in.My husband said he bought it because he had such greatmemories of his family making homemade icecream.I am certain thattradition will continue in our family now too!

Antifreeze Ice Cream Spade Review

Antifreeze Ice Cream Spade
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently bought this ice cream scooper/spade because my parents had something very similar to this for several years now. I always knew that their spade was better than any of the other ones I've used since it was very solid, never bent, and ice cream almost ALWAYS seemed to slide right off. So once we bought our own place I was on a quest to find the same scooper. I didn't really look too long since I found this one here on Amazon. When doing my research I finally found out why ice cream always slid off the spade without any effort: these things are actually filled with anti-freeze! To cut to the chase, this scooper/spade works just like my parents' one--meaning that its solid, cuts through hard ice cream, and slides right off. I can't speak to the longevity of this particular one but seems very solid and my parents have they've had theirs for several years now. Like another reviewer mentioned, just don't place this thing in the dishwasher...yes, it doesn't explicitly say not to put it in the dishwasher but it does state not to put it in very hot water, which is what dishwashers use.

Don't let the high price on this ice cream freezer fool you into thinking you're getting something that's high quality. We ordered one in late November, anticipating lots of fun "cranking" together at family get-togethers over the holidays. The "trial run" in early December went fine. But the second time we got the freezer out of the box -- on Christmas evening -- we saw that metal filings had shifted out of the crank mechanism. Then, as we attempted to make just our second batch of ice cream, the crank handle broke.(The crank mechanism seems to be poorly made, which overly stresses the crank handle.)Not what we expected from a $159 ice cream freezer.

I purchased these for my kids to have their frozen fruit and yogurt this summer. They love the fun shapes and enjoy helping Dad scoop the chopped up fruit and vanilla yogurt into the molds. The molds remove easily and wash up quickly, with no foul smells remaining or staining. They aren't too big either, so there isn't any half-eaten pops being tossed in the trash. These are a great buy and worth every penny-we now have 3 different styles in our kitchen.

I have been making ice cream in a Cuisinart macine for years but I wanted to regain my freezer space from the 2 canisters I had to keep ready.. I also wanted to make good gelato since I can't go to Italy all the time. This machine delivers the real experience for both. It also can chill wine in just a few minutes. I had first bought the Lussino 4080 by Musso at about twice the price. It was terrible. Too soft right out of the machine and full of ice crystals when put in the freezer for any amount of time. It didn't get firm, it became a rock. I returned it and got the Lello Gelato Pro instead. It is quieter, has a washable bowl, weighs much less and makes a larger amount of ice cream. It's no contest. This machine is great

Lello 4070 Gelato Junior Review

Lello 4070 Gelato Junior
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just received and tried out the Gelato (reportedly manufactured by Simac...but the company name on the machine is Lello..don't know why a different name). Results were great! The machine is rather large and heavy, due to the self-contained compressor, but that means you don't have to plan ahead or take up freezer room to prefreeze the bucket. Makes enough ice cream for about four people, although if you need more you can start another batch right away by moving the first batch to another container (or your mouth )and refilling the bucket.
The machine runs quietly and freezes well (albeit I would add 10 minutes to times listed in the included receipt booklet). A timer is included to signal when the "set time" has ellapsed. The timer does not stop the churner or turn off the machine. However, according to the manual the machine will shut off before mechanical damage is done, if the ingredients become too frozen and the churner stops.
For a few dollars more than models requiring prefrozen buckets, you can buy this model and reap the benefits of higher priced models. You may get a larger capacity bucket on somehigher priced models, but for home use this machine will put you in the ice-cream maker "big league" with no apparent short comings.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Lello 4070 Gelato Junior

Product Description:
With a minimum freezing temperature of -4 degrees F, the Simac Gelato Junior takes only about 30 minutes to satisfy your craving for a frozen confection. Plus, the built-in compressor freezer operates continuously, so you can turn out multiple flavors of ice cream while your guests finish their dinner. A 60-minute electronic timer frees you up for other activities, and an automatic safety mechanism sounds a warning beep if the integrated spatula blade gets stuck. A removable 1-quart bowl, transparent lid, and slim ingredient window all simplify operation, and the unit is also useful for crafting frozen drinks and chilled soups. Though not lightweight at 31 pounds, the Gelato Junior is fairly sleek for its class, measuring 11 by 14 by 12-1/4 inches. Simac includes a booklet of tasty ice cream, sorbet, and dessert sauce recipes, as well as an ice cream scoop.

Hamilton Beach 68220 1.5-Quart Capacity Ice Cream Maker, White Review

Hamilton Beach 68220 1.5-Quart Capacity Ice Cream Maker, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK, first off, all the 1.5qt ice cream makers on the market -- this one, Cuisinart's, and Krups' -- are fundamentally the same. It's a metal bucket full of some fluid that you put in the freezer; it gets very cold, cold enough to freeze 1.5qts of ice cream mix. That, and it's a motor with a mixing arm. That's really it.

So I figured, when I bought this one, that I was getting a deal; it's the cheapest of the three. Now that I've used it a few times, I'm wishing I'd just splurged, spent the extra twenty bucks, and gotten either of the others.

The mixing blade on this model doesn't seem to actually mix very well. I made a cantaloupe sherbet last night and I looked into the bowl as the arm turned, and it was just shoving the sherbet around in a circle. It wasn't churning. The sherbet wasn't frozen solid or anything, it was still pretty slushy. The arm just seems poorly designed.

I think the motor's pretty weak, too. It turns so slowly that it doesn't need to be very strong, they just gear it way down and even a weak motor can push pretty hard. But this routinely gets stuck on bits of ice cream that freeze in a layer on the bottom of the bucket. I made a frozen yogurt, which you have to put in the bucket to start (vs. pouring it through the opening while it's running) because of the thickness of the yogurt, and it had real problems churning after that. I ended up having to churn it by hand with a spatula for a while at the end.

Finally, there are just design details that aren't very good about this. The top of the motor / lid assembly is sloped, and the on/off switch is on that surface and protrudes a bit.

When you take that motor / lid off and set it down, the obvious way to do it is to rest it on its top (with the mixing arm sticking up.) This invariably hits that switch and turns it on. Whenever I'm taking it off, I'm trying to move quickly, stir the ice cream or scoop it off into a container to put in the freezer, so it's always irritating to take that lid off, quickly set it down, and have it turn on, the mixing arm starts turning, ice cream splatters, etc. This happens every time. There's not really a better way to set it down. So I have to unplug it whenever I want to put it down on the counter. It's just not very well thought-through.

Similarly, the locking mechanism involves pivoting that big blue arm up and over from one side to the other, which is cumbersome; the electric cord gets in the way, and even when you get it right, it's not a terribly snug fit; the motor can rock back and forth a bit.

Overall, you get what you pay for, and the other brands really aren't that much more expensive. Don't be a tightwad like me; splurge for one of them instead of this.

Hamilton Beach Half Pint Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker Review

Hamilton Beach Half Pint Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I thought this would be a fun ice cream maker for my family, but I was really disappointed. Some of the ice cream formed a frozen layer along the inside of the bowl and the rest managed to all get clumped in the mixing blade. I waited the correct amount of time before adding a mix-in (crushed oreo cookies) and when I tried to put the top back on it was almost impossible. I had to move everything around in the bowl to make space for the blade. The ice cream is definitely soft serve and did not stay very frozen for long. Clean up is kind of a pain because the top and blade are what plug into the wall. When I removed the lid, ice cream dripped all over the counter. An easy clean up, but if you're going to eat it right out of the bowl, you'll need to either take the lid and blade directly to the sink, or be prepared to clean up your counter.
It does look cute, and does not take up a ton of space which is nice. I plan on returning mine and getting something else.

This is a fun product! You do need to freeze the bowl before use, so as long as you realize that, you should be good. And my first batch was the Vanilla Bean. It was/is to die for. Had I read the directions THOROUGHLY, I would have seen that this particular recipe requires the custard (which you make from scratch) is to be chilled thoroughly prior to mixing it in the machine. This recipe takes a little time but boy is it worth it!! I am sad that the other guy left a bad review for the machine when his beef was with the company's customer service before even ORDERING it. I like the first guy's idea of buying an extra freezer bowl (if you have the storage space). They include recipes for ritas, gelattos, slushies, floats, sorbet, etc. LOTS of fun!
